Korea dispatches disaster relief team to Nepal to support flood recovery efforts

A Korean disaster relief team comprising 44 personnel from various agencies, including the foreign ministry and Korea International Cooperation Agency, has departed for Nepal to aid in search, rescue, and other relief efforts following catastrophic floods, announced the foreign ministry on Wednesday. Embarking on a KC-330 Cygnus multirole tanker transport aircraft shortly before midnight Tuesday, the team is anticipated to arrive in Nepal at 5:55 a.m. local time, equipped with 700 pieces of gear and five search-and-rescue canines.

The KDRT, a statutory emergency response unit, is projected to remain in Nepal for approximately 10 days, engaged in search and rescue operations, with a specific focus on the nine Koreans still unaccounted for. Collaborative efforts with the Nepali government and a pre-deployed rapid response team will guide their operations. While the initial deployment period is set at 10 days, it can be extended if the situation warrants it.
