A South Korean disaster relief team, known as the Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT), has embarked on a mission to Nepal to assist in flood recovery efforts. Consisting of 44 personnel from various agencies, including the foreign ministry and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the team departed for Nepal shortly before midnight Tuesday aboard a KC-330 Cygnus multirole tanker transport aircraft.

Upon arrival at 5:55 a.m. local time the following day, the team will bring along 700 pieces of equipment and five search-and-rescue dogs.

The KDRT aims to stay in Nepal for approximately 10 days, focusing on search and rescue operations for victims of the devastating floods. This includes nine South Koreans who are still unaccounted for. The team plans to conduct these rescue operations in coordination with the Nepali government, supported by their existing rapid response team already present in the country.

The deployment may be extended beyond the initial 10-day period if the situation requires. As a statutory emergency response unit, the KDRT is dedicated to providing disaster relief and conducting search and rescue operations in the affected regions of Nepal.
