Interior Ministry showcases integrated security system with advanced tech at LEAP 2026

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has issued a warning to travelers regarding the importation of firearms and ammunition into Ghana. According to a Revenue Officer at the Accra International Airport Preventive Unit, Conrad Attu, these items cannot be brought into the country as ordinary personal effects and instead require prior approval from the Ministry of the Interior.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr Attu emphasized that firearms and ammunition are subject to strict regulatory controls due to their restricted nature. He explained that anyone seeking to import such items must obtain a permit from the Ministry of the Interior before bringing them into Ghana. Upon arrival, Customs officers will examine the items and verify that the importer possesses the required permit.

Mr Attu also noted that even if the appropriate permit has been obtained, the items may be detained at the airport until further processing by the Ministry of the Interior. To avoid delays or complications, the GRA strongly advises travelers to secure all necessary approvals before attempting to bring firearms or ammunition into the country.
