Insecurity: NYSC reacts as abducted corps members regains freedom after days in captivity

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) expressed gratitude for the successful rescue of sixteen Corps members who were abducted in Kogi State on August 26, 2026. The corps members were kidnapped while traveling from a Bayelsa State NYSC camp to Abuja following a successful Orientation Course. The NYSC lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Kogi State Vigilante groups, and other contributors to the search and rescue efforts.

In a statement, the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, highlighted the professionalism, courage, commitment, and coordination displayed by the security agencies in rescuing the Corps members. The NYSC acknowledged President Tinubu's unwavering support and commitment to the safety and welfare of Corps members nationwide, stating that his concern and dedication played a crucial role in the successful rescue operation.

The NYSC also appreciated the patience and cooperation of the affected Corps members' families during the ordeal and praised the media for handling the situation professionally without compromising the safety of the youths. The Scheme expressed relief at the safe recovery of all affected Corps members, who are now eager to resume their assignments.
