Im Sung-jae to compete at Presidents Cup as captain's pick

South Korean golfer Im Sung-jae has been named as a captain's pick for the International Team in the upcoming Presidents Cup, scheduled to take place at Medinah Country Club in Illinois from September 24 to 27. Captain Geoff Ogilvy of the International Team selected Im and five others on Tuesday, along with six automatic qualifiers based on their world rankings.

The Presidents Cup is a biennial match play event where the International Team competes against the U.S. side. This year's edition will be the 16th in the competition's history, with the U.S. side holding a 13-1-1 record, with the lone International victory coming in 1998. Im, who is ranked No. 57 in the world, will be one of three South Koreans on the team.

He has been a consistent performer on the PGA Tour, finishing in the top 10 in his last six tournaments and posting five top-15 finishes in the final six events of the 2023 season. Ogilvy praised Im's ability to "hit birdies" and described him as "one of the funniest guys in the team room," adding that he is an invaluable asset to the International Team.
