Hopeson Adorye makes strong proposal on appointment of Special Prosecutor

United Party Director Hopeson Adorye has proposed significant reforms to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) law, advocating for the inclusion of retired Supreme Court judges in the position. On Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Adorye emphasized that seasoned judges could bolster the OSP's independence and effectiveness. He suggested that instead of appointing younger professionals, the government could consider appointing experienced judicial figures, who could effectively wield authority without personal ambitions clouding their decision-making.

Adorye highlighted Justice Dotse as an example of a judge who, even for a brief term, could have a profound impact. He argued that retired Supreme Court judges, equipped with years of public service, would contribute valuable maturity, legal expertise, and experience to the OSP. Adorye also proposed a review of the OSP law to address existing challenges and enhance the office's performance.

He cautioned that consistently appointing younger individuals could sometimes foster tensions, particularly when personal ambitions or ego play a role in their responsibilities. Adorye urged stakeholders to consider altering the legal framework and exploring a leadership model that could elevate the OSP's credibility, independence, and effectiveness in combating corruption.
