GetGo launches cross-border car rentals to Malaysia

GetGo, a car-sharing platform, will now allow users to rent vehicles for cross-border travel to Malaysia, according to a statement made on September 1. This marks the company's first foray into cross-border travel, enabling users to drive its vehicles from Singapore into mainland Malaysia. Unlike traditional car-rental services, GetGo's service eliminates the need for users to pay a deposit and collect and return vehicles at designated locations. Instead, users can book vehicles through the GetGo app and pick them up from the nearest car park.

Notably, GetGo's service has no mileage charges, regardless of the distance driven in Peninsular Malaysia. The company also provides cross-border users with a capped surcharge based on vehicle category and travel day, offering visibility into costs before confirming their booking in the GetGo app. Additionally, users have the option of financial protection through collision damage waiver (CDW) and Enhanced CDW coverage, and can add a pre-registered co-driver to their booking to share the drive between two insured drivers under the same insurance coverage.

GetGo's cross-border travel feature comes as the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link, expected to launch in January 2027, is in the works. The company operates a fleet of over 3,000 vehicles across more than 1,700 locations in Singapore.
