Garissa County invites investors to county’s industrial park

Garissa County, situated in Kenya, has extended an invitation to investors in the agro-processing sector to utilize the Garissa County Aggregation Industrial Park (CAIP). The facility, which is 90% complete and was launched in September 2023 as a joint County-National Government initiative, aims to reduce post-harvest losses, promote agro-processing, and enhance market access for local producers.

CAIP includes eight warehouses, aggregation centers, cold storage rooms, and value-addition units to support cooperatives and investors. Garissa County Chief Officer for Industrialization and Enterprise development, Jael Ouma, emphasized the significance of CAIP in job creation, revenue enhancement, and maintaining local economic growth.

She urged investors to focus on processing camel milk, camel milk powder, rice, and sunflower, which could be locally packaged and sold at higher prices, consequently boosting incomes, generating employment opportunities for the youth, and fostering a stronger local economy. The infrastructure at CAIP is already in place, and Ouma appealed to both investors and locals to take advantage of the facility, which is projected to be fully operational within three months.

A multi-agency team comprising officials from the state department of Industrialization, Government delivery unit, and officers from the Garissa County Commissioner's office toured the park to evaluate its progress and identify potential operational gaps.
