Fundraising gala rakes in GH¢1.5m for renovation of historic Wa Naa’s Palace

A fundraising gala held in Wa has successfully raised GH¢1.5 million, both in cash and pledges, towards the renovation of the historic Wa Naa's Palace and the construction of a modern conference facility within its grounds. The event, organized by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and the Eco-Growth Development Initiatives Foundation, took place at the Delagio Hotel in Wa.

The gala brought together various stakeholders including traditional rulers, judicial officers, religious leaders, and government officials. A video documentary showcased the progress made on the multi-phase redevelopment project.

Supreme Court Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, the event's chairman, pledged GH¢200,000 on behalf of himself, his law firm, and associates. He emphasized the palace's significance to the people of Wa, describing it as the "soul of our people, the custodian of our history, and the courtroom of our peace."

Naa Kadir Ibrahim, representing the Overlord of the Wala Traditional Area, Kuoro Sampou III, personally contributed GH¢200,000. He urged attendees to view their donations as investments in the shared heritage of the region.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing, highlighted the potential economic benefits of the redevelopment, including tourism, job creation, and investment opportunities. He stressed the importance of preserving cultural heritage while integrating modern infrastructure.

The Wa Diocese's Catholic Bishop, Most Rev. Francis Bomansaan, praised the initiative and encouraged residents and the diaspora to support the redevelopment. Justice Kulendi concluded the event by inviting further contributions from corporations and individuals, assuring donors of a transparent and accountable implementation process.
