Fubara pledges sustained partnership with Army to tackle economic sabotage

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has pledged to strengthen the partnership between his administration and the Nigerian Army to combat economic sabotage and safeguard critical national assets. This commitment was announced during a meeting with Major General Everest Okoro, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army.

The division oversees Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, and Akwa Ibom states. Fubara emphasized that the partnership between the Rivers State Government and the Nigerian Army has a long-standing relationship, even predating his administration. He assured the GOC that his government would provide necessary support to ensure success in his new role.

Both the governor and the military officer stressed that current security challenges demand joint efforts to protect oil and gas infrastructure from vandals. Fubara highlighted the importance of this partnership in the face of economic difficulties and called for sustained collaboration between various agencies, including the Nigerian Air Force and Navy, to achieve common goals.

The GOC, in turn, pledged to uphold the division's commitment to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure while working in close coordination with the government and other security forces.
