Ford explains why it chose Apple Maps over Google for its new EVs

Ford's decision to integrate Apple Maps into its upcoming Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) Platform has been explained by Alan Clarke, the company's vice president of advanced vehicle projects. Clarke was interviewed by GreenCars and revealed the reasoning behind choosing Apple Maps over Google Maps and other options. The team at Ford evaluated multiple mapping solutions and ultimately decided that Apple Maps offered the best performance capabilities, cost, and quality.

The automaker has confirmed that Apple Maps will be integrated into Ford's native in-car software platform, rather than adopting CarPlay Ultra. This means that Fathom owners will have access to native Apple Maps, as well as standard CarPlay and Android Auto options. Despite choosing Apple Maps, Ford drivers will still have the flexibility to use other mapping solutions like Google Maps, Waze, and third-party CarPlay apps.
