FBI Probes Service Selling 153M+ Drivers Licenses

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is currently investigating a newly launched identity theft service on the dark web that claims to sell over 153 million drivers licenses from individuals in the United States and Canada. The service, called Nexus, allegedly sources its image data from a prominent identity verification company based in Louisiana.

The FBI's New Orleans field office has launched an inquiry into the origin of the stolen license images. Among the high-profile individuals whose drivers licenses are being sold are U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The Nexus service offers more than 153 million drivers licenses for purchase, along with other identification documents such as 10 million ID cards, over three million travel and international IDs, and at least 579,000 medical cards.

The records also include marijuana dispensary cards, which are not typically associated with standard drivers licenses. The number of license records in Nexus has increased by nearly 400,000 in just 24 hours, indicating that new stolen data is being continuously added to the service. One of the individuals whose license was found in Nexus, the author of this report, confirmed having traveled on the dates associated with the timestamps of their license images.

However, it was later discovered that the author did not have a Real ID, which is now required for domestic air travel in the United States, and instead used their passport to board their flight.
