Ex-Spain head coach Robert Moreno named temporary manager for men's nat'l football team

Former Spain head coach Robert Moreno was appointed as the temporary manager for South Korea's men's national football team on Tuesday, the Korea Football Association (KFA) announced. This decision was made during the KFA's board meeting at Korea Football Park in Cheonan, located about 90 kilometers south of Seoul. At the age of 48, Moreno will lead the team in their upcoming six international matches.

The Taegeuk Warriors have scheduled matches against Ecuador on September 24, Uruguay on September 28, Venezuela on October 2, and Uzbekistan on October 6. The KFA is also attempting to arrange two additional matches within the November 9-17 FIFA international window. Following the November matches, South Korea will participate in the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia, commencing in January.

The KFA stated that Moreno's contract runs until November 27, but he may be given the opportunity to serve in a full-time capacity for the Asian Cup, contingent on the team's performance during the fall. The men's national team head coaching position had remained unfilled since Hong Myung-bo resigned in late June to address the country's group-stage elimination from the FIFA World Cup.

Instead of hastily appointing a new coach, the KFA opted to trust Moreno's experience and capabilities for the interim period.
