Ex-Spain head coach Robert Moreno named temporary manager for men's nat'l football team

Robert Moreno, a former head coach of the Spanish national football team, was appointed as the interim manager of South Korea's men's national team on Tuesday. The Korea Football Association (KFA) approved Moreno's appointment during their board meeting at Korea Football Park in Cheonan, located 90 kilometers south of Seoul. At 48 years old, Moreno will oversee South Korea's next six international matches.

The team will face Ecuador on September 24, Uruguay on September 28, Venezuela on October 2, and Uzbekistan on October 6. The KFA is also attempting to secure two additional matches within the November 9-17 FIFA international window. Following these November matches, South Korea will participate in the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia, which begins in January.

The KFA stated that Moreno's contract extends to November 27. However, he will have the opportunity to assume a full-time role for the Asian Cup, contingent upon the team's performance during the fall. The position of head coach for South Korea's men's national football team had remained unfilled since Hong Myung-bo resigned in late June.

Myung-bo's decision came after the team's disappointing exit from the FIFA World Cup's group stage. Instead of immediately seeking a replacement, the KFA opted to appoint Moreno on a temporary basis.
