Ex-Crips leader found guilty in 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur

Former gang leader Duane "Keffe D" Davis has been found guilty of orchestrating the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas, Nevada. The jury convicted Davis of one count of murder with a deadly weapon after hearing evidence that he ordered the shooting and supplied the gun. Shakur, 25 at the time of his death, was a prominent figure in the rap world, with sales exceeding 75 million records.

The case went unsolved for nearly three decades and was fueled by conjecture and conspiracy theories. Davis admitted to his involvement during a 2008 police interview and later confirmed it in his memoir in 2019. However, this admission violated a protective agreement he had with authorities, allowing his testimony to be used against him in court.

Prosecutors argued that Davis, as the "shot caller" of the South Side Crips, was responsible for Shakur's murder, as he was present in the car where the shots were fired. The judge has set Davis' sentencing for October 13, 2023.
