English Football League disappointed with UEFA over fixtures clash

The English Football League (EFL) expressed disappointment with UEFA following a clash between fixtures in the League Cup's third round and the Champions League. Initially scheduled for September 9, the match between Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers was disrupted as UEFA arranged Liverpool's Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid for the same evening.

This posed logistical challenges for the police, as both Everton and Liverpool could not play home fixtures on the same day. UEFA's decision to schedule the Liverpool vs. Atletico Madrid match on September 9 was met with resistance by the EFL, who attempted to meet with UEFA officials to explore rescheduling options. However, UEFA declined to consider moving the Liverpool match, citing the impact on overseas traveling supporters.

As a result, the Everton vs. Wolves fixture has been rescheduled to September 16, the same night as Liverpool's match against Tottenham Hotspur. The EFL criticized UEFA for their unwillingness to cooperate, particularly in light of recent changes to accommodate UEFA Club competitions without sufficient consultation with domestic leagues. The EFL apologized for the inconvenience caused to supporters of the five impacted clubs.
