Élections Québec says it will send out voting information in French only

MONTREAL — Élections Québec announced on Tuesday that it will only distribute voter information in French, as per language laws. Previous elections had voter information cards printed in both English and French. The change to the policy is a legal requirement, according to spokesperson Julie St-Arnaud-Drolet. The elections authority must comply with legislation from 2022 that mandates French as the sole language of communication for public institutions, she explained in an email.

This year’s documents will feature a QR code enabling voters to access information online in English, St-Arnaud-Drolet informed. Indigenous voters and those entitled to English instructions must reach out to Élections Québec to request English materials. St-Arnaud-Drolet emphasized that the elections authority will intensify its outreach to anglophone and allophone voters throughout the campaign.

"We will place advertisements in English-language media... as well as on various websites and online streaming platforms, such as Spotify," she stated.
