Dyson launches £420 toothbrush that films ‘live cleaning footage’ inside your mouth

Dyson, the renowned home appliance manufacturer, has unveiled a £420 toothbrush equipped with cutting-edge technology designed to film "live cleaning footage" inside the user's mouth during tooth brushing. This innovative toothbrush aims to provide a comprehensive dental care experience, incorporating features such as cleaning, flossing, and spraying a fine mist of mouthwash. The toothbrush's development spanned six years and the collective efforts of 661 engineers.

The brush boasts a "100k pixel macro lens camera" and an "anti-gravity (mouthwash) tank," functioning as a high-quality endoscope to enable users to observe their oral health from a dentist's perspective. This real-time footage can be viewed through the MyDyson app, providing personalized feedback on the user's cleaning routine.

James Dyson, the company's founder and chief engineer, highlighted the extensive research and development process that went into creating the toothbrush. This process included the creation of a "proxy plaque" to accurately test plaque removal. The toothbrush addresses the common issue of missed areas between teeth where plaque tends to accumulate.

Dyson's brush claims to remove up to 72% more plaque compared to leading electric toothbrushes. The package also includes a non-foaming toothpaste and mouth rinse, each priced at £8.50. Despite the competitive landscape filled with advanced toothbrushes, including smart models with apps, Dyson's toothbrush represents a unique approach to oral care. However, the British Dental Association (BDA) emphasizes that a proper brushing routine, as advised by dentists, is more crucial than owning the latest dental gadget.
