Driver held for unauthorised transport of 15 tonnes of blue metal in Tirupattur
A 38-year-old driver from Tirupattur was apprehended by Natrampalli police on Tuesday for unlawfully transporting 15 tonnes of blue metal without the appropriate permit. Identified as R. Kumar, the individual resided in Tirupattur. The police disclosed that special task forces had been established across the district to curb illegal sand mining, smuggling of ganja, and other illicit substances.
During a routine patrol near the railway station in Pachur village, situated in Jolarpet town, the police intercepted a lorry carrying heavy loads of blue metal. It was revealed that the lorry was en route to Tirupattur to deliver the consignment to a private industrial unit. The police pointed out that Chittoor district is renowned for its stone quarries and crusher units, which are vital for industrial activities.
The lorry was carrying the blue metal to Tirupattur when the police team intercepted it. The driver was found to only possess photocopies of the bill receipts for the consignment, a requirement that stipulates the original receipts must be carried for verification purposes during large-scale transportation of blue metal. The driver failed to provide a valid permit issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for the vehicle.
Consequently, a case was lodged against the driver, and the lorry was impounded. An investigation is currently underway.
