Death toll from Nepal-Tibet flash floods passes 1,000

A devastating flash flood on the Nepal-Tibet border has claimed over 1,000 lives, with the Nepalese disaster authority reporting at least 987 fatalities. Chinese authorities have confirmed 16 deaths in Tibet, bringing the total global death toll to 1,003. Nepalese authorities have recovered 3,916 people missing, while China has reported 546 individuals missing, totaling 4,462.

The missing in Nepal include 583 foreign nationals from 30+ nationalities, with 275 Indian citizens and 128 of Indian origin among them in Nepal. The US has 85 citizens missing, while India recorded 17 recovered bodies from rivers believed to be flood victims. Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah stated that over 11,000 people have been rescued across the affected region.

The disaster resulted from glacier instability due to long-term global warming effects, and Nepal's government urges the international community to address the growing risks of similar disasters caused by climate change.
