At least 10 Syrian security personnel injured in Sweida clashes

Clashes erupted between Syrian security personnel and armed groups in the southern Sweida province, known for its Druze community, according to the state news agency Sana. The Internal Security Forces (ISF) were repelling attacks by outlaw groups in the western countryside, where the ISF suffered injuries from shelling and heavy machinegun fire in Tal Hadid and Walgha areas, reported state-run Al Ikhbariya TV.

An ISF vehicle came under attack, resulting in civilian casualties, though the number of injured civilians was not disclosed. The violence coincided with protests in Sweida against armed groups obstructing students from taking exams. Multiple ISF members have been hurt in recent months due to attacks by outlaw groups against their positions in villages in the western Sweida countryside, as reported by Sana.

Sweida has been plagued by fighting since the demise of former President Bashar Al Assad's regime in 2024. Earlier this year, Bedouin fighters, Druze militias, and government security forces engaged in intense clashes in the province, leading to civilian deaths, kidnappings, and property damage. Residents of several villages fled the violence, some unwilling to return to areas under government control.
