China protests after Argentine official blames communist party for Nepal tragedy

The Chinese Embassy in Argentina has protested after an official from President Javier Milei's administration blamed the Chinese Communist Party for the Nepal flash flood tragedy. Milei's head digital strategist, Juan Pablo Carreira, claimed on X that a Chinese state-owned company was responsible for the collapse of a glacier, causing a massive mudslide that killed over 2,500 people in Nepal.

China vehemently denied the accusations, stating that the death toll was actually around 1,000, with nearly 4,000 people still missing. The Chinese government emphasized that experts from both countries' agencies concluded the landslide was caused by the collapse of a high-altitude glacier on Nepalese territory. China stressed that Carreira's comments were driven by biased ideological prejudices and urged him to stop spreading ill-intentioned speculations, as such actions could harm China-Argentina relations and cooperation.
