Celtic miss out on Niko Sigur after Champions League exit dealt transfer blow

Celtic have reportedly missed out on signing long-term midfield target Niko Sigur from Hajduk Split after the Champions League exit dealt a significant transfer blow. The 22-year-old Canada international was on their radar for two transfer windows, but Celtic's Champions League elimination to LASK last week reportedly dashed their hopes of securing the player.

Hajduk was believed to value Sigur at around €4million, attracting interest from several European clubs. However, Toulouse secured Sigur's signature with a deal finalized for a move to Ligue 1. Sigur will join former Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou at Toulouse. Celtic have since targeted Joel van den Berg and Oliver Sorensen for midfield reinforcements, while attention remains on the left-back position following Kieran Tierney's injury.

A deal for Chelsea's Landon Emenalo was also agreed, though it remains to be finalized due to an injury concern. Sigur, born in Canada and representing Croatia internationally before switching his allegiance to Canada in 2024, had a standout performance at the 2026 World Cup, earning praise from Celtic manager Jesse Marsch as the best player in Canada's squad.
