Mainz 05 finds themselves in a difficult situation as an unnamed Premier League club submits a €30 million offer for Japanese international Kaishu Sano. The German tabloid Sport Bild reports that Mainz have been actively pursuing the 25-year-old despite the club's increasing confidence that Sano would remain with them through the summer transfer window.

The offer, reportedly lower than the €50m-€60m range previously discussed, includes substantial sell-on participation that could provide Mainz with future income. Mainz sporting CEO Christian Heidel had previously stated that the club could not contemplate losing Sano in the final days of the window, as there would not be enough time to find a suitable replacement.

The offer, while below Sano's skyrocketing market value, would still represent a significant return on a player acquired for a fraction of his current worth two summers ago. The timing of the offer poses the biggest obstacle, as Mainz's entire midfield structure has been built around Sano. Losing him with minimal time to replace him could severely weaken the team, despite the financial return.
