Brughmans joins Liverpool in deal worth up to £30m

Liverpool have officially signed 18-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Genk in a deal potentially worth up to £30 million, including add-ons. The young keeper, who stands at 6ft 7in, has committed to a six-year contract with Liverpool and will start the season on loan at Genk before joining Anfield for the 2027-28 campaign.

According to BBC Sport, the initial fee, along with subsequent payments, could reach the £30 million mark. Liverpool already have a strong goalkeeping lineup consisting of Alisson, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman, and Vitezslav Jaros; however, with Alisson's contract set to expire next summer and Mamardashvili's future unclear, Brughmans could be a viable option from the summer of 2027.

The signing of Brughmans was facilitated by Liverpool's global talent department, headed by Matt Newberry. Earlier this year, the club signed Senegal's Mor Talla N diaye and Austria's Ifeanyi Ndukwe after they impressed at the U17 World Cup in Qatar. The club has also signed goalkeeper Armin Pecsi and midfielder Samuel Martinez from Hungary and Colombia, respectively, in the past year.
