Bencros Marine Fenders, the Slovakia-based manufacturer of rubber fenders for ports, tugs and workboats, today announced at the SMM Start-up Night in Hamburg that the CO₂ savings embedded in its fenders are now independently verified and can be transferred to its customers as certified emission reductions. Slovakian fender manufacturer Bencros Marine Fenders has independently verified and certified CO₂ savings into its rubber fenders, which can now be transferred to customers as certified emission reductions. The first certificates will be available from September 2, 2026, on the Proba carbon standard registry. Bencros produces fenders from high-quality rubber compounds sourced from tyre and industrial rubber factories, blending it with rubber powder from recycled end-of-life tyres.

In 2024 and 2025, the company reused 5,070 tons of rubber waste, resulting in 13,112 tonnes of CO₂e emission reductions. Bureau Veritas is the independent verification body. Each ton of Bencros fender saves around 2.6 tons of CO₂e compared to a fender made from virgin rubber. The buyer can directly book 2.42 tons of the CO₂e saving into their own greenhouse gas inventory (Scope 3, Category 1 – Purchased goods and services) and report the remaining 0.16 tons separately.

Each certificate is registered under the buyer's name, traceable to the rubber used, and can be claimed once. Bencros charges EUR 80 per ton of CO₂e saved, with proceeds used for waste processing and independent verification. The project is expected to save close to 5,000 tons of CO₂ in 2026 alone. Bencros has been working on sustainability solutions in the rubber fender industry for years, using recovered rubber feedstock, operating a take-back approach, and supplying reprocessed unvulcanized rubber compounds to third-party manufacturers.
