Barcelona sign Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal for reported £8.6m

Spanish football club Barcelona have signed Gabriel Jesus from English Premier League team Arsenal for a reported £8.6 million. The Brazilian striker has agreed to a deal until June 2029. Jesus had been linked to Napoli before completing his medical on Monday. During his six-year tenure at Arsenal, he scored 32 goals and provided 22 assists in 123 appearances.

He was one of several high-profile signings made by Barcelona this summer, joining Karim Adeyemi, Jesse Bisiwu, Joao Cancelo, and Dominik Livakovic. Jesus' transfer follows the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle and former Ballon d'Or winner Rodri from Manchester City. Born in São Paulo, Jesus began his football career in Brazil before joining Palmeiras' youth system and making his debut in 2015.

He won the Brazilian league in 2016 and was named best player in the league that year. Jesus moved to Manchester City in 2016, where he scored 95 goals and provided 45 assists in 236 appearances, helping the team win four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four League Cups, and two Community Shields. He suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2025 but returned to action in December and played a key role in Arsenal's 2025/26 Premier League title win, scoring three goals in 14 appearances.

Jesus has also represented Brazil at the youth level, winning a gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games and playing for the senior national team at the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups and the 2019 and 2021 Copa América tournaments.
