Apple follows Google in adopting Trump’s ‘Lake America’ name

Apple Maps has started displaying "Lake America" in place of "Lake Ontario" for users in the United States, following President Trump's directive. This change aligns with Google Maps, which also updated the lake's name to "Lake America" on August 27, as part of an executive order signed by Trump on the same day. The order instructed the Interior Department to update the lake's name in U.S. geographic naming services and federal databases within 30 days.

While Apple Maps will only display "Lake America" to American users, Canadian users will continue to see "Lake Ontario." Outside the United States and Canada, both Apple Maps and Google Maps will show both names. The decision to rename the lake has further strained relations between the U.S. and Canada, following a breakdown in trade talks between the two countries.

Other map services, like MapQuest, have not followed suit, continuing to use the name "Lake Ontario" in their maps.
