2027: ‘Church not place for political campaigns’ – Adeyanju hits Peter Obi

Rights activist Deji Adeyanju declared on Tuesday that using religion for political campaigns could destroy Nigeria, emphasizing that the church should not be a venue for political rallies. In a statement, Adeyanju criticized the Nigerian Democratic Congress, Peter Obi's presidential bid, for using churches to promote their agenda.

He stressed that elections should be about ideas, policies, and visions to improve Nigeria, not church involvement in politics. Adeyanju denounced the Nigerian Democratic Congress's recent use of churches for political purposes, calling it an instrument of division. He reiterated that the church is not a place for political campaigns or gimmicks, and politicians should not be treated as pastors.

The Electoral Act 2026 prohibits using places of worship for political campaigns and campaigning on religious, tribal, or sectional grounds. Adeyanju further condemned the gathering of religious leaders to endorse Tinubu's candidacy, emphasizing that such actions divide Nigerians. He urged pastors to stop platforming politicians to maintain the sanctity of their churches.
