Watch: Zohran Mamdani look-alike contest draws hundreds in New York

Hundreds of people gathered near Washington Square Park in New York on Sunday for a Zohran Mamdani look-alike contest. The event drew attention to various aspects of the mayor's life, from his political career and athletic pursuits to his earlier rap career. Actor and comedian Amadeo Fusca, 40, won the $100 prize, wearing a New York Knicks jersey, a formal suit, a haircut reminiscent of Mamdani's, and facial hair similar to the mayor's.

Contestants named their favorite pizza before the crowd settled the winner by applause, without a formal judging panel. Fusca, who had already made a career out of his resemblance to Mamdani, had appeared in episodes of "NCIS" and the film "The Alto Knights." His act started during Mamdani's mayoral campaign when friends pointed out their similarity.

Fusca initially hesitated to change his appearance, but after Mamdani's election, he decided to go ahead. The impersonation gained traction at Knicks watch parties, where Fusca received enthusiastic reactions. The attraction has also led to Fusca earning professional work, including Instagram videos parodying Mamdani and taking on his shape for variety shows.
