Unannounced Load-shedding Beyond Our Control, We’re Sorry: Power Minister

The federal government has issued an apology to consumers due to unannounced electricity load-shedding across the nation, according to a report on Monday. Power Minister Awais Leghari stated that the power outages were caused by factors beyond the government's immediate control, and expressed regret for the inconvenience. The announcement came just three months after the government claimed to have ended load-shedding. Leghari made the remarks at a press conference alongside Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik.

The Power Division initially attributed the power outages primarily to a shortage of refined liquefied natural gas (RLNG) following the delayed arrival of an LNG cargo. This disruption has reduced available power generation by approximately 4,000 megawatts, forcing electricity companies to implement temporary load management measures, particularly at night. Leghari apologized to those facing unexpected power outages and assured the public that the government is working to restore normal electricity supply.
