Umfrage: Wähler mit Migrationshintergrund wenden sich von Parteien ab

Voters with a migration background are distancing themselves from parties even more than other eligible voters, according to a study by the German Centre for Integration and Migration Research (Dezim). The winter 2025/2024 results show a significant decline in the proportion of individuals with Turkish roots, those from the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, or Pakistan who consider any party electable.

Only one in two respondents could envision voting for the CDU or CSU, compared to 67% a year earlier. The SPD's support in this group dropped from 71% to 60%. The Left also lost significant support among voters with family roots in these countries. The AfD fares better among immigrants from former Soviet states than among those with German parents from birth.

Only people with roots in Russia or other former Soviet states showed a higher likelihood of voting for the AfD. The only exception is the AfD's appeal among those with roots in Russia or other former Soviet states, despite being classified by the Constitutional Court as a right-wing extremist party and criticized for its stance on Ukraine's defense against Russia.

The researchers did not ask respondents who they would vote for in the upcoming Bundestag election, but rather the likelihood of supporting a specific party. Despite voter distrust, the SPD still holds the largest potential voter base among immigrants and their descendants, with about two-thirds considering them electable. The CDU and CSU follow in second place.

For the study, people with at least one parent not born with German citizenship were considered immigrants.
