U.S. Open 2026: Aryna Sabalenka wins opening match after recent Grand Slam struggles
Aryna Sabalenka turned in an encouraging performance to kick off the 2026 U.S. Open.
Aryna Sabalenka, the world's top-ranked player, reclaimed her winning form at the 2026 U.S. Open with a dominant first-round victory over Camila Osorio. Despite Sabalenka's recent struggles at Grand Slams, including early exits from the Australian Open and the French Open, she was the favorite heading into the tournament. However, Sabalenka faced early pressure from Osorio, dropping the first game of their match.
But the world No.1 quickly regained her composure, winning the next four games in straight sets. In a display of her powerful serve, she won five out of six points in the crucial fifth game. Sabalenka then secured two more games to clinch a 6-2 victory, advancing to the second round.
