Top-ranked Scheffler storms to PGA Tour Championship win

MIAMI - World number one Scottie Scheffler secured his second PGA Tour Championship victory on Sunday with a commanding final day performance at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The four-time major winner carded a final round four-under-par 66, finishing at 16-under and clinching a three-shot win over fellow American Viktor Hovland.

Scheffler, who began the day three strokes behind Hovland on Saturday's third round, chipped away at the lead before ultimately pulling clear. "Just continuing to battle, day in and day out is something that I'm very proud of... coming from behind and being able to win tournaments is a really cool feeling," Scheffler said afterwards.

Hovland, chasing his second Tour Championship win after lifting the 2023 title, finished on 13-under. Earlier, Scheffler started his title bid with a brilliant birdie on the par-three second hole, followed by another birdie on the fourth. Despite a bogey on the seventh, he recovered with birdies on the eighth and 10th, leaving him at four-under.

A bogey on 15 allowed Hovland to close the gap, but Scheffler sealed the deal on 16 with a two-foot birdie putt, marking his 22nd PGA Tour title. Ryan Gerard finished third at 12-under, while Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy and England's Tommy Fleetwood were tied for fourth and fifth, respectively.
