Top-ranked Scheffler storms to PGA Tour Championship win

World No 1 Scottie Scheffler secured a three-shot victory at the PGA Tour Championship by storming to a four-under-par 66 on Sunday at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The four-time major champion, who also claimed the season-ending Tour Championship in 2024, overtook Viktor Hovland throughout the final day. Scheffler, who began three strokes behind his rival, chipped away at Hovland's lead, clinching the 22nd title of his PGA Tour career and a $10 million winner's check.

Scheffler expressed his pride in battling through challenging rounds and winning tournaments, saying, "Just continuing to battle, day in and day out is something that I'm very proud of." Hovland, who had been chasing his second Tour Championship win after lifting the 2023 title, finished on 13 under after a closing two-over-par 72.

Earlier, Scheffler started his title bid with two consecutive birdies, including a birdie on the par-three second and another on the fourth. He then faced a bogey on the seventh but rebounded with a third birdie on the eighth. After a bogey on the 15th, Scheffler capitalized with a sensational birdie putt on the 16th, leaving Hovland trailing by two shots with two rounds to play.

England's Tommy Fleetwood and Australia's Adam Scott were tied for 11th place on 10 under, five shots behind the winner.
