Tigers promote infield prospect for MLB debut before Twins series

The Detroit Tigers have promoted infield prospect John Peck for his MLB debut before their series against the Minnesota Twins. Peck, a 24-year-old shortstop/third baseman, was selected in the seventh round of the 2023 draft out of Pepperdine University. He has spent the majority of the season at Double-A Erie, where he has displayed a .285 batting average, .328 on-base percentage, and .511 slugging percentage.

The prospect ranks 20th among Detroit's prospects according to MLB Pipeline, with scouting reports highlighting his excellent fielding skills at shortstop and strong contact at the plate. However, Peck's free-swinging approach and tendency to chase pitches have resulted in a 73% contact rate this season, which is below the MLB average of 77.8%.

As Major League rosters will expand to 28 players on September 1, it is possible that top prospect Max Anderson could be promoted to the big leagues. Anderson, a second baseman, currently plays for Triple-A Toledo and has a .307 batting average with an .889 OPS in 93 games.
