Tearful Federer Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

Roger Federer has been inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, describing the moment as "one of the greatest honors" of his life. At the ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island, the retired 20-time Grand Slam singles champion was visibly emotional, reflecting on his illustrious career alongside tennis legends such as Billie Jean King and John McEnroe.

Federer, 45, started his professional career at the age of 16 in 1998 and went on to win a record eight men's Wimbledon singles titles, along with six Australian Open crowns, five US Opens, and one French Open. Speaking about his achievements, he emphasized that fame was never his ultimate goal, stating that his purpose was to pursue his passion with like-minded individuals.

In his induction speech, Federer highlighted some lesser-known statistics from his career, such as wearing more than 5,000 headbands and over 7,000 pairs of socks during his time on the ATP Tour. He also expressed his gratitude to his wife Mirka, tennis idol Stefan Edberg, and every ball kid who stood through his matches. Federer joked about needing "tissues and sunglasses" to cope with his emotions, emphasizing the significance of this milestone in his life.

The Swiss legend, who has won more men's Grand Slam singles titles than Rafael Nadal (22) and Novak Djokovic (24), also reflected on his rivalry against these tennis giants, as well as his time alongside various generations of players, including Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Roddick, Nadal, and Djokovic. He emphasized that tennis has been integral to his life, contributing to his relationships with family, friends, and the future he is building.
