TCL’s latest NXTPAPER tablet has an 11-inch display and a questionable chip from $229

TCL has introduced a new tablet, the TCL Tab A1 NXTPAPER, utilizing its proprietary NXTPAPER display technology. This 11-inch model is available at a reasonable price, but its chipset has raised questions. The NXTPAPER version and non-NXTPAPER versions of the tablet share similar specifications and design, with the primary distinction being the matte finish of the NXTPAPER display and the inclusion of a compatible stylus.

Both tablets feature an 11-inch, 2112×1320 90Hz display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, Android 16, 8,000 mAh battery, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage (including a microSD card slot). The tablet is powered by the MediaTek Helio G100 chipset, a cost-effective chip introduced in 2024 as a minor upgrade to the previous Helio G99 released in 2022.

While this might make the tablet perfectly usable, its low price point may appear underpowered, especially for the NXTPAPER version that retails for as much as $299. TCL sells the Tab A1 NXTPAPER directly on its website for $249 and on Amazon for $229. The non-NXTPAPER version is priced at $179 through TCL’s website or on Amazon.
