Table tennis: BVB reach the cup Final Four for the first time

The Borussia VfB table tennis team has achieved a historic milestone by securing a spot in the Cup Final4 for the very first time. This triumph came just a day after their initial success in the round of 16, where they defeated their league rival TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau with a score of 3-0. Coached by Borussia's Evgeny Fadeev, the team's coach described the promotion to the national elite level as "the happiest moment of my coaching career."

Meanwhile, department head Ulla Reitemeyer announced that she would immediately share the good news with club president Hans-Joachim Watzke. This is a significant achievement for Borussia, as their prior cup accomplishments included only three round of 16 appearances between 2020, 2024, and 2025.

The team will now face off against treble winners 1. FC Saarbrücken-TT in the semifinals at the cup finals in Neu-Ulm, expected on January 3. Fadeev's top-50 trio of Anders Lind, Joao Geraldo, and Kristian Karlsson once again demonstrated their prowess by beating local favorites Baden-Württemberg-TT. The lineup changes included Anders Lind moving up to position one, Joao Geraldo shifting from the top to third, and Kristian Karlsson taking the second slot for the opening singles match.

Karlsson's performance in the opening match against veteran Bastian Steger was particularly noteworthy. The left-handed Swede, now 45, was dominated by Karlsson, who won the third game with two impressive bursts of points, ultimately securing the victory with a decisive fourth-set point. Lind and Geraldo also showcased their skills in subsequent matches, gaining momentum and securing their place in the Final4.

The head of the table tennis department, Ursula Reitemeyer, expressed immense pride in the team's performance, highlighting the unity and fighting spirit of the players. Evgeny Fadeev, the team's coach, spoke of this victory as the happiest moment of his coaching career, crediting his players' unity and outstanding performance for their success.

The Borussia VfB table tennis team will now turn their focus to the Bundesliga, with their next match against TTC Fulda-Maberzell scheduled for September 21.
