KBO's Seoul rivals set for final 3-game series at historic stadium

Seoul-based baseball rivals LG Twins and Doosan Bears are preparing for a final three-game series at their shared historic stadium, Jamsil Baseball Stadium, from Tuesday to Thursday. This will be the last week of the regular season for Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) teams, following which they will play makeup games against different opponents in different cities due to a record-breaking heat wave.

The Twins currently lead the standings in fourth place with a 64-51-1 record, trailing the Kia Tigers by a fraction in winning percentage. The Bears, in fifth place with a 61-52-4 record, have a chance to secure the final postseason spot and overtake the Twins with a sweep this week. The Twins possess a 7-4-1 edge in their season series against the Bears.

The competition for first place has become intense, similar to the 2021 season where the Samsung Lions and KT Wiz needed a one-game tiebreaker to determine the first place finisher. The Lions are currently leading by a half game over the Wiz, while the Wiz will play a three-game home series against the Hanwha Eagles in Suwon before visiting Seoul to face the Twins.

The gap between the top five and the bottom five teams remains significant, with the NC Dinos eight games behind the Bears, and other teams like the Giants and Eagles struggling to stay in contention.
