Supreme Court Refuses To Stop CJP’s September 5 Delhi March, Leaves Law And Order To Authorities

On Monday, the Supreme Court declined to block the Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP) planned September 5 protest march in Delhi, citing a lack of compelling evidence suggesting any potential for unlawful activities. The court's Chief Justice, Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, heard a petition filed by retired Delhi Police officer, Rajendra Singh, who had requested restrictions on large-scale gatherings in sensitive areas of Lutyens' Delhi, including India Gate and Central Vista.

Singh's plea arose from concerns regarding security during the BRICS Summit planned for September 12 and 13. The Court emphasized that it expects both protesters and authorities to maintain responsible behavior, adhere to the law, and remain peaceful during the demonstration. The matter is set to be revisited on September 10, with officials from the Central government and Delhi Police receiving notices.

The CJP's march is scheduled to commence from India Gate and culminate at Delhi Police Headquarters, coinciding with Teachers' Day. The protest is a response to alleged irregularities surrounding the NEET examination and involves families of NEET aspirants who tragically took their own lives and alleged victims of police misconduct during prior protests.

The march seeks the withdrawal of FIRs against the protesters and fulfillment of promises made by the Centre during negotiations following the 36-day agitation that ended on July 25. The Delhi Police has been closely monitoring the planned demonstration, although no formal request for permission has been submitted so far.
