Simon Komu enters Westlands MP race as DCP contest narrows to two heavyweights

Businessman Simon Komu has entered the race for the Westlands parliamentary seat on the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket, intensifying the contest with former Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi. The two contenders are now the dominant figures within DCP, with the possibility of a party nomination contest looming if both remain on the ticket.

Komu pledged to prioritize education, healthcare and basic services in his campaign, aiming to expand secondary education and improve healthcare access, particularly in informal settlements. Havi, with his legal background and prominent political profile, could benefit from name recognition, while Komu is leveraging his local connections to build his campaign.

The DCP must decide whether to hold a competitive nomination process, settle on a candidate through a political agreement, or allow one of the aspirants to pursue the seat through a different party. The contest is part of a broader battle for the Westlands seat, which is currently held by incumbent MP Tim Wanyonyi.
