Palghar: Draft Electoral Roll Published Under SIR; Voters Can File Claims Until September 30

On August 31, 2026, the draft electoral roll for Maharashtra was released as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process initiated by the Election Commission of India. The Palghar District Collector and District Election Officer, Dr Indu Rani Jakhar, encouraged every eligible voter in the district to meticulously review their name and details in the draft electoral roll, as well as those of all eligible family members.

If a voter's name is absent from the draft roll, they should not be alarmed; claims and objections can be submitted between August 31 and September 30, 2026. The final electoral roll is set to be published on November 4, 2026, following the hearing and resolution of claims and objections by October 29, 2026. Voters are reminded to verify not just their own details but also those of all eligible family members.

This includes checking the accuracy of their name, father's or spouse's name, age or date of birth, gender, photograph, residential address, EPIC (Voter ID) number, and assigned polling station. Families are encouraged to pay special attention to the details of senior citizens, individuals away for education or employment, migrants, and those whose Enumeration Forms were not submitted or had verification incomplete during the SIR process.

Those missing from the draft roll can still register by submitting Form 6 along with required documents and a declaration. Corrections related to name, address, age, date of birth, photograph, or other electoral details can be made through Form 8. Voters who were previously marked as Absent, Shifted, Dead, or Duplicate (ASDD), or whose verification was incomplete, are urged to verify their status through official channels and submit the necessary forms and documents within the given timeframe.

The draft electoral roll, information on voter registration, and related services are accessible via the Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra's official website, the Election Commission of India's Voters' Service Portal, and the offices of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).

Voters should gather necessary documents for claim or correction filings, such as identity proof, age/date of birth, and residence details, along with any relevant information from the 2002 electoral roll. Dr Jakhar emphasized that the draft roll serves as an opportunity for voters to correct any errors, advising them not to panic if their name is absent.

The publication of the draft roll marks the beginning of a period to verify and rectify electoral details.
