Sabah CM Hajiji announces RM3,000 aid for each household hit by Kota Kinabalu fire

KOTA KINABALU, August 31 — The Sabah government plans to provide RM3,000 in aid to each household head (KIR) affected by a fire in Kampung Lok Buta, Numbak. This disaster destroyed over 200 homes early yesterday morning. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor revealed that the RM3,000 assistance comprises RM1,000 from the state government, RM1,000 from the federal government, and RM1,000 from Yayasan Kebajikan Sabah.

After visiting the victims at the Likas Multipurpose Hall temporary relief centre, Hajiji spoke to reporters. He announced the aid to help ease the burden of the affected households. The state government will also work with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) to assist in rebuilding the homes of the victims. The location for rebuilding, whether at the original site or elsewhere, will be decided based on the area’s suitability.

For non-Malaysian KIRs affected by the fire, the state government will provide RM1,000 aid on humanitarian grounds. The government will also supply basic necessities such as food and household items to the affected families. The fire broke out around 1:40 am yesterday and claimed the lives of three children: four-year-old Nana Abdullah, her six-year-old brother Mohd Asrul, and their eight-year-old cousin Nurfarahdilah Mohd Tajihah.
