Revival of Chemilil Sugar Football Club in the offing

Chemelil Sugar Company 2025 is considering a return of the renowned Chemelil Sugar Football Club as part of its ongoing efforts to revitalize the state-owned sugar miller, Deputy General Manager Michael Wanjala has revealed. Speaking on the progress made since Kibos Sugar and Allied Industries assumed control of the miller in a historic leasing deal, Wanjala confirmed that the revival of the football club is slated for the future.

While the management is currently concentrating on restoring the factory to peak performance after years of neglect, the football revival is touted as a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Wanjala highlighted the historical association between the sugar industry and football, noting that many sugar companies in Kenya have maintained their own teams. He expressed optimism about the revival, stating that the club's history with a distinguished team will be restored and elevated. Former players are expected to play significant roles in the revival plans.

Wanjala emphasized that the investor community's support is crucial once the factory reaches its 50 percent completion, as Chemelil Sugar 2025 has benefitted from similar support from its sister entities.

Mumias and Nzoia sugar industries have preserved teams, which continue to exist in various capacities. Wanjala urged stakeholders to be aware of Chemelil Sugar's commitment to revitalizing the club. The club, which competed in Kenya’s premier football division for 24 years, disbanded in 2020 due to financial difficulties, leading to the disqualification of players from the National Super League (NSL).

During its peak, the Chemelil Sugar Football Club nurtured numerous athletes, including former national team player Musa Otieno, striker Mike Muiruri, and French Ligue 2 player Noah Abich.
