PRA Issues New Guidelines for Salons, Spas and Aesthetic Clinics

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has introduced new regulations for aesthetic clinics, spas, beauty salons, beauty parlors, and practitioners offering cosmetic and plastic surgery services throughout the province. The purpose of these guidelines is to ensure that patrons receive accurate receipts and clear information regarding the 5% sales tax applied to specific services provided by beauty establishments and other specified providers, such as skin and laser treatments.

The PRA has instructed service providers to exhibit these guidelines at their cash registers and to inform customers about the applicable tax when they make a purchase. The authority has advised clients to review their invoices and confirm the inclusion of the Punjab sales tax alongside the service fees. The PRA has also cautioned businesses against charging customers more than the authorized tax and service charges as stipulated by law.

The agency has prohibited businesses from issuing temporary or handwritten receipts, mandating them to furnish digital receipts to customers instead. Those who encounter businesses that deny card or digital payments can report such instances via the PRA Facilitation App or the agency's social media channels. The PRA asserts that these measures aim to enhance transparency in sales tax collection and safeguard customers from unjustified charges.
