Police arrest two alleged extortionists after Gqeberha-Cape Town trip

Two men, aged 35 and 47, have been arrested in connection with an extortion plot targeting a security company owner in Cape Town, according to police reports. The suspects were apprehended during a sting operation at a golf club in Parow after allegedly journeying from Gqeberha to collect the demanded ransom. The security company owner had reportedly been receiving extortion threats since May, with the suspects threatening to kill him, his family, and employees if their demands were not fulfilled.

The victim alerted the authorities, leading to a sting operation involving multiple SAPS units in the Western Cape. On Friday morning, the two men arrived at a pre-arranged meeting place in Parow to pay the demanded ransom, which included accommodation expenses. They were subsequently arrested by police. Authorities have advised individuals targeted by extortionists in the Western Cape to report the crime through the province's toll-free hotline.
