Katsina: Police arrest 19-year-old man over alleged robbery attempt

The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended a 19-year-old individual, identified as Aliyu Sani, in connection with an alleged robbery attempt and impersonation incident that occurred in the Kofar Sauri area of Katsina metropolis. This development was reported by the command's spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, in a statement on Monday, detailing the arrest of the suspect on August 22, 2026, following a tip-off from concerned citizens.

Police officials learned of the suspect's actions around 7 p.m. when he was reported to be pursuing an unidentified individual while holding a toy pistol, intending to commit robbery. In response, police officers collaborated with a local vigilante group and apprehended Sani at approximately 8 p.m. in Kofar Sauri. During the arrest and subsequent search of Sani, police discovered a black toy pistol in his possession.

Aliyu further revealed that Sani was unable to provide a convincing account regarding the acquisition of the toy firearm during his preliminary interrogation. The suspect will be held in police custody pending further investigation. Police Commissioner Ali Umar lauded the community members and the local vigilante group for their proactive role and cooperation with the police, encouraging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to assist in combating criminal activities across the state.
