Ohanaeze Youth Council calls for urgent repair of Ihiagwa-Naze Obinze road

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has called on the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, to prioritize the repair of the deteriorating Ihiagwa-Naze-Obinze road. In a statement released by its National President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the council highlighted the severe impact of the road's poor condition on students and residents.

The road, a vital link between the Naze-Nekede-Ihiagwa-Obinze corridor in Owerri West, connects two federal institutions, Federal University of Technology (FUTO) and Federal Polytechnic Nekede. The OYC expressed deep concern that the road has faced years of neglect and abandonment, leading to vehicle damage, prolonged travel times, and significant hardship for students, faculty, and local residents.

Additionally, the council warned of escalating insecurity in the area, attributing the rise in criminal activities such as kidnapping, car theft, and motorcycle theft to the poor road conditions. Igboayaka urged a collaborative effort between the federal and Imo State governments to address the issue, recommending improvements such as drainage expansion toward the Ihiagwa market and bridge construction.
