Mumbai: BMC Proposes ₹5.10-Crore Facelift For Bandra’s Patwardhan Park, Excludes Underground Parking Plot

Mumbai, August 31, 2026 - The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed a ₹5.10-crore facelift for Patwardhan Park in Bandra, nearly two years after scrapping an underground parking plan due to widespread resident opposition. The 11-month renovation encompasses a new entrance, repairs to the security room, walls, toilets, pathways and steps, and the demolition of a deteriorated RCC bridge.

Notably, the project omits the land earmarked for the underground parking lot initially planned by the civic body. The revamp plan includes new play equipment, outdoor gym facilities, seating, cobbled pathways, information boards, electrical works, and landscaping. Among the eight bidders, M/s H & H Associates emerged as the lowest bidder, quoting 34% less than the BMC’s estimated cost.

The proposal is now before the BMC Standing Committee for approval. Bandra's BJP corporator Swapna Mhatre noted that maintenance had been neglected for years due to uncertainties surrounding the underground parking project. However, environmental activist Zoru Bhathena criticized the decision, arguing that proper upkeep could have prevented the extensive repairs now required.

While the underground parking project at Pushpa Narsee Park in Juhu was abandoned following protests, the Patwardhan Park redevelopment process has been ongoing for over a year.
